New Orleans Pelicans Draft UConn Guard Jordan Hawkins

Pelicans Select Guard with 14th Overall Pick

New Orleans Bolsters Backcourt Depth with Promising Prospect

The New Orleans Pelicans have selected UConn Huskies guard Jordan Hawkins with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft. Hawkins is a highly touted prospect known for his explosive scoring ability and impressive shooting range.

Hawkins averaged 14.6 points per game and shot 39.0% from three-point range in his sophomore season at UConn. He is a skilled ball handler and a dangerous threat in transition, possessing the potential to become a reliable scorer at the NBA level.

The Pelicans have been in need of additional depth in their backcourt, and Hawkins' addition provides a much-needed boost. His ability to create his own shot and knock down perimeter shots will complement the team's current core of guards, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum.

Hawkins' selection marks the second consecutive year that the Pelicans have drafted a guard in the first round, following their selection of Dyson Daniels in the 2022 NBA Draft. The team is hoping that Hawkins can make an immediate impact and contribute to their quest for a playoff berth.
