Road Rash After Motorcycle Accident

Road Rash: A Comprehensive Guide

What is Road Rash?

Road rash is a common term used to describe the abrasions and wounds caused by friction against a rough surface, often during an accident involving a fall or slide on the road.

Types of Road Rash Injuries

Road rash can vary in severity, ranging from minor abrasions to deep lacerations. It is classified into three main types:

  1. First-degree: Superficial abrasions that only affect the outermost layer of skin (epidermis).
  2. Second-degree: Abrasions that penetrate deeper into the dermis, causing blisters and pain.
  3. Third-degree: Severe lacerations that extend into the subcutaneous tissue or even muscle, requiring medical attention.
