High-Flying Drama: Flight to Florida Has a Bird-Related Detour
A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was forced to make an emergency landing back in Havana, Cuba, after the aircraft struck birds shortly after takeoff. The plane, which had departed from Havana's José Martà International Airport, was carrying over 150 passengers and crew members.
According to eyewitnesses, the plane suddenly lurched and shook as it ascended, causing panic among the passengers. Several passengers reported seeing birds flying near the aircraft before the impact. The pilots quickly turned the plane around and landed it safely back in Havana.
No injuries were reported, but some passengers were treated for minor shock and anxiety. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but officials believe that the bird strike caused damage to one of the plane's engines.
The flight's passengers were eventually accommodated on a different aircraft and continued their journey to Fort Lauderdale. Southwest Airlines has apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the pilots for their quick response in ensuring the safety of their passengers.
