Impactful Storytelling

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Los Angeles at 12:20 pm PT, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was located near the border of South Pasadena and the Highland Park neighborhood, approximately 5 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. The quake was felt throughout the region, from the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach.

There are no reports of major damage or injuries at this time. However, some residents reported feeling the shaking and hearing a loud boom. The earthquake was followed by several smaller aftershocks, the largest of which was a magnitude 2.5.

The earthquake is a reminder that Southern California is an earthquake-prone region. In the past 100 years, there have been more than 10 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater in the Los Angeles area. The most recent major earthquake in the region was the 1994 Northridge quake, which had a magnitude of 6.7 and caused widespread damage.
